The City of Weslaco's Planning Department guides and manages the growth of the city and its five-mile extraterritorial jurisdiction through policies and regulations adopted by the Mayor and City Commission.

The Planning Department implements Weslaco's Comprehensive Plan, including the Thoroughfare Plan,  Zoning,  Parking, Landscaping, Sign, Access Management, and Subdivision Ordinances. Working together with the City Engineer and Public Facilites, Parks and Recreation, and Code Enforcement Departments, and, of course, the citizens of Weslaco and builders and investors in Weslaco.

The Planning Department seeks to foster a good quality of life and to promote community well-being through orderly, sustainable, efficient and aesthetically-pleasing development.

Subdivision Ordinance Classification of Subdivisions and their Associated Procedural Requirements

Subdivisions within the City of Weslaco are hereby classified according to the following types: Major Subdivision - Subdividers will be required to follow all of the terms of this Ordinance and will be required to file:*a preliminary plat and *a final plat. Minor Subdivision -  Subdividers will be required to follow all of the terms of this Ordinance and will be required to file:a preliminary/final plat

General Provisions The quality of an urban area is dependent on and is reflected in the design of the individual neighborhoods that compose it. In order to assure such coordination for the benefit and the protection of the health, safe and general welfare of the citizens of Weslaco, each residential subdivision constructed within the City's jurisdiction must be designed in accordance with the following policies: The residential environment should be safe, efficient, and visually appealing. Landscaping is strongly encouraged. Commercial, institutional, public, and quasi-public land uses within neighborhoods will be restricted to those services which directly benefit the residents of the associated neighborhood. The City of Weslaco supports the use of cluster or planned unit development and other forms of energy efficient design.

Cinco De Mayo Celebration

Join us at the Weslaco City Park to celebrate 5 de Mayo and Mother's Day on Sunday, May 11, 2008 from 12 noon until 9:00 p.m. Festival will consist of live entertainment, professional wrestling, food vendors, and free kiddie rides.

Weslaco Public Library

The library complex includes a two-story main building in the Spanish style with a media center. The two sections are joined by a shady courtyard featuring a fountain and tropical plantings. Designed by Weslaco architect, Gene P. Hobart. The interior stairway is decorated with terracotta and blue Mexican tile in the talavera pattern.

Economic Development Council

The Weslaco EDC is a non-profit corporation dedicated to the creation of jobs through recruitment of new industry and helping existing companies relocate and/or expand. Our objective is job creation and adding wealth to the community.
