Chief Named President of Hidalgo Co Fire Chiefs Association

The City of Weslaco would like to congratulate Fire Chief Antonio Lopez, who was named President of the Hidalgo County Fire Chiefs Association on January 25th, 2023. 21 Fire Chiefs from around the Rio Grande Valley unanimously appointed him to the position where he’ll serve for at least one year.

Chief Lopez humbly accepted the position and notes that this reflects Weslaco’s fire department's efforts and the success and skills they’ve acquired handling fire and emergency management during his tenure. Chief Lopez is excited to share best practices that have worked for Weslaco and what he’s learned incorporating EMS into his department; a practice only a few RGV fire departments have accomplished.

The Hidalgo County Fire Chiefs Association is a chapter of The Texas Fire Chiefs Association that aims to create organizational excellence within fire departments, ultimately enhancing firefighter safety, standard operating guidelines, deployment analysis, risk management, and other administrative functions. They act as the liaison between Texas Fire Service leadership and legislative members of the State of Texas, which actively strive to enhance the safety of Texans while protecting career and volunteer firefighters throughout the state.
Congratulations, Chief Antonio Lopez!
