K9 Officer Shayne, a standard poodle, takes his oath of office on May 2nd, 2023. He joins the Weslaco Police Department as a stress therapy dog.
Sworn in by Chief of Police, Joel Rivera, Ph.D. Officer Shayne is ready to serve the community alongside his handler and partner, Officer Palacios.
Officer Shayne is 7 years old and is a certified guide dog. Graduate of Guide Dogs of the Desert in California, he was deployed to the State of Oregon where he assisted people with disabilities.
He now joins the City of Weslaco as a therapy and emotional support animal.
