Mayor and City Commission proclaim Childhood Cancer Awareness Month

Childhood Cancer Awareness Month

Each day, 47 children are diagnosed with cancer in the United States. This includes children here in Weslaco.

Mayor David Suarez along with the City Commission proclaimed the month of September as childhood cancer awareness month in Weslaco.

We send well wishes to Marc Marquez, who was diagnosed with medulloblastoma at the age of 8 years old and has been in remission for three years. We were also joined by Steven Cardenas, who was diagnosed with non-hodgkin's lymphoma. Steven received his last chemo treatment a year ago and has since been in remission.

"The more awareness about childhood cancer, I think the funding will come to support childhood cancer patients like Marc and Steven," said Ronda Marquez, Marc's mom.
Mayra Hough, who had cancer at birth, was also present for presentation of the proclamation. Along with Marisela Rodriguez, they have been advocating for childhood cancer awareness in our community.

Let's go gold this month in support of children like Marc and Steven! We are sending them and their supportive families encouragement and support!
We are happy to hear these Weslaco kids have been doing well after treatment!
