EMPLOYEE SPOTLIGHT

Meet Gabriel Rodriguez, medium equipment operator in our public works department!

Job highlights: Brush collection as well as residential and commercial waste collection. Gabriel does it all! We appreciate his willingness to assist wherever needed within our public works department.

Gabriel picks up and disposes of garbage from homes, schools, restaurants, and other establishments. He starts his workday as early as 5 a.m.

Years of service: 3 years with the City of Weslaco
Gabriel previously worked as a truck driver and has had his Commercial Driver License (CDL) Class A for more than 18 years.

Favorite place to go in Weslaco: Gabriel recommends the lonches at Nana's Taqueria or the chicken sandwich from Chili's in Weslaco

Favorite part of the job: Definitely picking up brush.
"I really like it here," he said. "I like helping people and the community. Also, I like to take care of the trucks and make sure they're clean."
Prior to joining the brush collection team, Gabriel served the community by paving streets.

If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would it be: The state of Washington – again!

Advice you would give others: "God gave you two hands and legs to work and to take care of your family."

Gabriel enjoys spending his free time with his wife, kids and family!
