Cleckler Heald Drainage Pond Groundbreaking at B Garza Middle School

The City of Weslaco broke ground on a new RDF or drainage pond that will hold excess storm waters during extreme weather events. The Cleckler Heald RDF at B Garza Middle School will hold over 75-acre feet of water and remove approximately 200 homes from the 10-year floodplain. Rhiner Construction will be the contractor for the project. The total price for the project is $2.7 million, as part of the drainage pond fund. Mayor Adrian Gonzalez stated that drainage will continue to be a priority for his administration. The city thanked Cruz Hogan and Associates for developing plans for this drainage improvement, Hidalgo County Drainage District 1, Hidalgo Cameron County Irrigation District #9, the Texas Water Development Board, and WISD for partnering with the city of Weslaco and allowing this RDF to be built on their property for the benefit for the entire community. The project is expected to be completed in the summer of 2024.
